Hunt for Success

The Hunt for Success program of the Berean Community Center, Inc.(BCC) was established in 2015 to honor the life of Charles B. Hunt, Esq. After a life-long battle with type 1 diabetes (T1D), he passed away at only 30 years of age. Charles, affectionately know as Brandon by his friends and loved ones, became a well-respected, well-liked, and nationally known lawyer. While he achieved much success in his career, his passion was mentoring young people who did not have the opportunities he was fortunate to have. Brandon also had a passion for athletics and played for the Wake County Bar Association’s Lawyers’ Basketball League, which was renamed after him in 2014. The Hunt for Success program honors Brandon by investing in his passions – emphasizing achievement in academics and athletics for young people.

In 2016, the program launched the annual Read, Write, Run 5K. This run through the neighborhood aims to encourage members of the community to engage in a healthy and active lifestyle and raise awareness of the importance of access to tools that promote literacy for all children. Find out more >
In the program’s short existence, it has hosted a Back to School Bash – a community celebration to inspire children and their families to have a healthy, well-balanced and successful school year. Through this event, BCC has been able to partner with elementary and middle schools in the Millbrook community of Raleigh to provide backpacks and school supplies for students in need.

The purpose of the Young Voices Matter competition is to empower children to share their perspective on injustices they have witnessed in their communities, provide solutions that will make a positive impact and encourage their peers to live by the Content of Character principle taught by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  Find out more >
